An exhibition of paintings by Clare Wassermann
Clare Wassermann’s paintings offer a dreamed of world of winged messengers in the form of birds. Ecological systems and connections with consciousness are foundational to her work which is about peace, freedom, love, care and hope – all things we must advocate for at every opportunity.
Clare Wassermann’s paintings are hugely topical as they visualise instances of love, care, hope and forge intimacy and connection with the natural world. Ecological systems and connections with consciousness are foundational to her work. Clare’s research and practice looks at philosophies and ways of being beyond a western capitalist hegemony and her work is pertinent in the context of the recent turn to the non-human and spiritual in art.
Clare’s paintings conjure an escapist joy and spiritual flight into a celebratory realm that soars free into an ecological entanglement of emotion, encountered nature and dreams, using universal symbols and the affectivity of colour to access a different cognitive environment where hope can thrive.
Escapist visions flutter with recognisable symbolism and feature avian seers and callers from dreams and imaginings. These paintings remind their audience of human bonds with the natural world, both ecologically, and emotionally. She celebrates the natural world and her local surroundings, but also looks beyond the city for refuge and reconciliation with nature.
Clare is currently a PhD Researcher in Eastern Philosophy and Western art practice but when she can she loves nothing more than being out in the fresh air drawing and painting as a way to deeply engage with our beautiful countryside and shorelines.
